I didn’t know what to expect when I heard that Gmail had put a ‘multiple inboxes’ feature in their labs.

It’s kind of misleading but I don’t know what else you’d call it.

The picture says it all.

Pretty much, with the multiple inboxes enabled (in your labs) you get to add up to 5 more panes to your Gmail screen.

You can define what the labs show with standard Gmail commands i.e Label: Bacn will show email labeled Bacn, is: starred will show starred messages, search: Tubu will search for the word Tubu and show the results.

There’s no doubt that my inbox really gets out of control, this might help. I have my inbox, my starred items and a couple of alerts right in front of me.

However you don’t seem to have the same control in the other panes that you do in your inbox. eg. If you try to delete a message from one of the other ‘inboxes’ by checking it and clicking delete, it won’t.

It’s a really nice feature though. What do you think?
