Google.org is developing a tool to watch energy consumption.

Apparently, “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it”.

Currently being tested by some Google employees the tool graphs electricity used in a household and pushes that information through to the users iGoogle page.

However, Google being able to do this is largely dependant on utility companies and their use of what is known as ‘Smart Meters’ which digitally tract power consumption.

This is in keeping with Google’s ‘Organize the World’s dataphilosophy but will power companies want detailed reports of power usage so that people can cut their electricity bills?
