“PortPlugs” are basically just that.   They’re small plugs that fit into the ports of various devices.

A very simple concept that could go rather wrong.   I can imagine devices thinking that there is some rogue peripheral attached, or a plug not easily coming out of a port, even a plug being broken off in a port.

However, after using PortPlugs (mostly the lightning, and aux on my iPhone 6+), I didn’t have any of this happen.

I have a ballistic case on my phone but even this leaves my ports wide open to any dirt, grime, dust, or other nastiness that may get in there.

I don’t use my headphone jack a lot.   It’s very rare that I use headphones with my phone at all.
I’ve kept the PortPlug in there pretty much since I got it, and not because it’s stuck.

If you look carefully at each of the phone-type PortPlugs, you’ll see that the edge isn’t flush the whole way around.  They’ve been designed as such so that you get get your finger nail up underneath the plug to get it out of wherever it is – and it works.

How much?  well, the price varies depending on what you’d like as your plug.  There’s regular plugs, aluminum, sets, uniplugs, curved, clear, and more.   All of them under $8.  Anything that price, that keeps your phone a little safer is worth a few bucks.

Block up the lightning, and headphone jacks, and your phone would be all that much more “splash resistant”.

Yes, the plugs are small enough that they might easily get lost.   The clever people at PortPlugs figured out a way around that though.   The Aluminum dust plugs for example, come with “clips”.   It’s a tiny clip that clips on to your headphone wire, or charging cord. One side clips the cord, and the other houses the plug when it’s not in your phone.

They’re classy too.   Metallic, or plastic, there’s a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors to suit your phone, tablet, or even laptop.

According to PortPlugs:

“Give your favorite devices some extra protection. From slow charging times, to damaged cirucuit boards, harmful debris such as dirt, dust, sand and lint can enter your mobile device ports and wreck havoc on them. PortPlugs provide your device with an extra layer of defense against these elements.  They work by sealing these open ports (such as the lightning port and headphone jack) while they are not in use, keeping your device clean and protected. Best of all PortPlugs are small enough to use with or without a case.  Learn more at PortPlugs.com!”
