WishBooklet – Finally you can all pitch in to get that present

There’s a lot of crowdfunding online these days.  A lot of it is for projects, startups, general ideas and more. Not a lot of it has an every day purpose though. I was impressed when I saw WishBooklet – it’s a crowdfunding site for gifts! Here’s what the folks at WishBooklet have to say: WishBooklet is an easy way to share what you want with your friends and family and get them to pitch in to get it for you. Think of it as wish listing meets crowdfunding. On WishBooklet you can easily add items from any online store and crowdfund gifts with your friends and family. WishBooklet allows multiple people to crowdfund a gift or just a single individual to purchase a gift. Create wish lists and crowdfund gifts today! Currently there is no online solution for getting friends and family to pitch in and buy you the gifts you actually want. The majority of Wishlist sites online only allow one person to buy a certain gift, there is no social aspect that allows your friend and family to crowdfund gifts. All of the crowdfunding sites focus on raising money for some sort of cause, none of them focus on you raising money for your own material needs, as materialist as that sounds. This is great! Imagine weddings, graduations, going to college etc.   Your friends and family from around the World can all pitch in and get that TV, Bed, or whatever else you needed from Ikea. Similarly to Kickstarter and other crowdfunding sites, WishBooklet shows what you want, gives others an option to help fund it and shows what percentage funded said item is. The site is currently in Beta but it really is a great start and a great idea. You might actually see those big gifts that you add to your Christmas list if you give all of your family members a platform to donate a little to the cause. There’s a “Wish It” button too.   So, while you’re perusing...

Finding the perfect gift for grandma and grandpa

(ARA) – With the holidays approaching, shoppers are making their lists and checking them twice. Undoubtedly, there are some blanks, as buying for grandparents often stymies children and grandchildren alike. Today’s grandparents are a unique bunch, with a number of traditional apple-pie bakers, knitters and chess players that are just as likely to be tech savvy or connected to their children and grandchildren on Facebook. In fact, according to a survey by Consumer Cellular, 67 percent of consumers 50 or older are on Facebook and desire a smartphone for easy Web access; 60 percent want to download financial apps, travel discounts and other offers. If the grandparents on your list enjoy the latest gadgets, consider these holiday gift ideas: Share the memories: Pre-load a digital album with the best photos from the past year, including holidays, birthdays, celebrations, vacations and everyday moments. For grandparents who live out of town, such a gift bridges the distance and keeps children and grandchildren connected. Stay in touch: Select a cell phone that grandparents can use to keep in touch with loved ones, and consider paying for a plan for the first year. It doesn’t have to break the bank. Consumer Cellular offers no-contract plans for as little as $10 a month. From the Doro Phone Easy 410, equipped with large buttons, a bright screen and an emergency call function, to the Motorola Bravo smartphone, Consumer Cellular has phones to suit every personality and price point. For grandparents who are less technology oriented, think about these alternatives: Plan a night out (or in): Pick up vouchers to a movie, concert or other special event that grandparents can enjoy. Or, as kids’ schedules are packed these days, consider planning a family outing to ensure some quality time with grandparents. Home-made certificates for a classic movie marathon or a game night are an affordable way to enjoy each other’s company at home. Dinner, on you: A special dinner is always appreciated. For grandparents, a gift certificate to one of their...

Consider a gift card to iTunes or Amazon’s digital music store or a portable device with speakers that will connect to their digital music player. For the young music lover on your list, Paper Jamz toy instruments allow kids to sing or play along with their favorite songs. Active devices Now more than ever, digital devices are small and durable enough take with you just about anywhere, even on a run or a bike ride.
