ID’s classic first person shooter, Quake, is due to be released online, as an online playable game.

Apparently all you’ll have to do is download a plugin (IE and Firefox) and get playing right away.

This is exciting news for the gaming community, online and not. With such a classic being released in an online platform by such a marvelous developer it’s bound to shake up the gaming community more than a little.

Quake Live’s open beta went online this month and the full edition should follow shortly.

Quake is famous for being one of the first 3D type, team player, networkable, First person shooters.
It’ll be interesting to see how ID translates that to the Internet and how other game developers follow.
