The ICM Registry is working on a contract with ICANN now that it has been ruled that .XXX top level domains cannot be rejected by the policymaking board.

What does this mean for you? well, ICM Registry will be the main providers of the .XXX tld initially, should you care to reserve one.

As of yet, there doesn’t appear to be any resolve to make and and all adult oriented domains .XXX (as opposed to .com, .net or .org) but in the future things certainly could go that way if the new Top Level Domain makes a reputation for itself and becomes something of an industry norm.

Using exclusively (pipedream) .xxx domain extensions would simplify filtering services too – essentially, all they’d have to block is anything with that TLD.  It’s a nice thought but I don’t see it happening any time soon and I don’t see a way to police such a move.

Also, I don’t see what the application for a .XXX TLD was initially rejected? was ICANN afraid that it may promote Adult websites? umm yeah that horse has already long gone.

Either way, keep watching, possibly later in the year, for the rush on .XXX domain names.
