Yes, yes, yes I know – there are a million sites out there that claim to check your credit for free. ‘Free’ seems to pale when they ask for your credit card information so that they can bill your account.

I stumbled across CreditKarma.com the other day and I’ve been playing with it ever since.

According to Credit Karma:

Credit Karma offers a new way to track your credit score and a unique way to benefit from it. For the first time you can get a truly free credit score with no hidden costs or obligations. Based on your score, you gain access to exclusive offers from companies that value your creditworthiness.

Similarly to Mint.com Credit Karma gives it’s users free analysis. In return users see minimal advertising and sign up for recommended banking and credit offers.
This is how they make their money.

It’s a great service though!
Just tap in your information on sign-up and they check you out, verify that you are who you are and bring up your credit score right there on the page. No credit card needed.

Along with your score there is a ton of different tools to play with.
See your credit score history in a handy graph.
Compare your score to others in your area, age range, even email address domain.
Check the Credit Score Simulator to see what actions would improve or be detrimental to your Credit.
Check your Credit Score Report card to see where and how you can improve your score.

The offers that Credit Karma shows its users are based on their profile and creditworthiness. Maybe you’re eligible for a non-secured Credit Card or a Bank account to help boost your score. Credit Karma will let you know.

While it’s not as detailed in many areas as the likes of Equifax or other “Check your Credit” providers it’s a marvelous service for free.

Well worth checking out if you value your credit at all.
